Draupadi Murmu, the newly appointed President of India, arrived in West Bengal on Monday for her first state visit since taking office. Murmu was greeted at Dum Dum Airport by two state ministers, Firhad Hakim and Sujit Bose, and received a reception and guard of honor.
After the ceremony, Murmu traveled to Raj Bhavan, the Governor's residence, where she rested briefly before visiting several cultural and historical sites in Kolkata.
During her visit, Murmu is scheduled to visit the birthplace of poet Rabindranath Tagore and meet with representatives of various tribal communities. She will also attend a civic reception hosted by the state government at Netaji Indoor Stadium, which is expected to be attended by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
On Tuesday, Murmu is scheduled to visit Belur Math, a monastery near Kolkata, before traveling to Santiniketan, where she will visit Vinay Bhavan. Murmu's visit to West Bengal is expected to be an opportunity for her to meet with local leaders and learn more about the state's cultural and historical heritage.
Before this, the President will pay homage to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at his ancestral residence on Elgin Road. From there, the President is scheduled to visit Rabindranath Tagore's Thakurbari at Jorasanko where he was born. After this, she will attend a National Bank program in Kolkata. After this, she will rest at Raj Bhavan on Monday night. Governor Dr. CV Anand Bose will host dinner for her.
On the second day, March 28, the President will visit Belur Math in the morning. From there, there is a program to go directly to Santiniketan in Birbhum where she has to attend the convocation ceremony.
Public Relations Officer of Visva Bharti Mahua Banerjee told that the convocation ceremony has been organized for the students who have passed in 2022. Governor Dr. CV Anand Bose will also be present along with the President. This is the first time that the President is visiting the university. That's why elaborate security arrangements have been made.
Birbhum District Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Mukherjee said everything that needs to be done for the President's security is being done as per protocol.
